Adkins Offer Withdrawn

The offer made to Nigel Adkins to become the next Saints manager has been withdrawn today. There is no news yet from Southampton but this is the statement on the Scunthorpe website;

"After a failure to agree a compensation package, it appears that Southampton's offer to manager Nigel Adkins and assist and Andy Crosby has been withdrawn".

Their Chairman, Steve Wharton, states;

"The latest I've heard is Southampton have withdrawn their offer to Nigel. They gave him an ultimatum to resign from his position as Scunthorpe United manager, but he was not prepared to do this until a compensation package was agreed."

In essence Nigel Adkins wanted to leave Glanford Park with his head held high, it seems that he did not want to resign and that he wanted Scunthorpe to be properly compensated. Nicola Cortese obviously wasn't prepared to oblige and the wait for a new manager goes on. There has been rumour after rumour - but who will want to accept the job now, knowing they were not first choice. Unless it was a more high profile manager that called to say they wanted to accept. We will report any more breaking news on this blog.
